We were asked to prepare a company’s rebranding due to dynamic changes taking place in EuroPressafter its 20 years of existence on the market. At initial stage we designed a new logo and basic key visual, business cards, letterhead, corporate presentation and some other CI elements. We present several of them. In second stage we started the process of complete website redesign, which is not finished yet, so that we can only show you a homepage design preview.

Storefront is what the prolific and talented American sign painters of the 1920s and 1930s would have created if they had access to the advanced lettering and type technologies we have today. Rooted in an incomplete Alf Becker alphabet sample, Storefront is my usual overdose on alternates and swashes, my eternal attempt at giving typesetting that ever-elusive handmade impression.

Though the main shapes, especially the majuscules, are almost a standard recitation of the natural evolution of nineteenth century scripts, the additional variants available within the font provide a leap in time to what sign makers and packagers are doing today. I can honestly say that Storefront’s influences are probably less historic and more in line with my recent travels and frequent supermarket visits. It’s difficult to avoid current visual culture when you’re constantly bombarded with it. Not that I try. I certainly welcome the overflow. I’m probably addicted to it by now.

With a very cool aesthetic, plenty of alternates and swashes, extended Latin language support, Storefront is over a thousand glyphs for your branding, packaging, and sign making pleasure.

• Sofia is a building designed by architect Cesar Pelli for One Development Group. Located in San Pedro, Mexico, this building not only was designed by an internationally renowned architect, it also has the most generous specifications in every aspect: from automated appliances, to Leed certifications.

  Our task was to communicate such sophistication and exclusiveness to their potential buyers. Therefore we created an identity that was the exact opposite of what we usually see for this kind of project.

  Sofia’s identity is formed by three very important axes:Logotype: the keys and the coat of arms are inspired by San Pedro’s coat of arms.
  Typography: we developed a custom typeface designed especially for Sofia, it is inspired by british san serifs.
  Layout: the text and information arrangement is inspired by the typographical treatment used before grids were popularized by the swiss grid system.

  Both the attention to detail and the brand’s elements convey the greatness of Sofia’s architectural project.

What are QR codes?

You may have noticed these barcode type square shapes appearing around you on television in magazines and on posters and leaflets, you may even know what they are the called.

But what do they do?

They work exactly how a barcode works to transfer information from a scanner to a machine. A QR code allows someone with a smart phone to use their camera to scan the QR code and transfer information using the URL. The URL can then be the address of an album or a website or information page.

The key immediate and new advantage of QR codes is saving time having to type in a web address by hand this becomes apparent when you repeatedly have to type out to beginning of a web address http://

For example with a QR on your business card somebody can immediately access your website with information about what you do. Meaning that they don’t have to wait till they get back to an desktop computer to learn about what you do. Which means they are more likely to follow up if they have an interest in your business.

Some people debate whether QR codes are here to stay but I believe they shall be around for a long time.

The truth is it could be an incredibly useful and time-saving tool. Whether it survives or not and becomes widespread only time can tell.

As smart phones become more and more popular and eventually the majority of people use them I believe that QR codes shall become the number one way of accessing information quickly.

I spent some time over December redoing the library for Crystal Palace called Upper Norwood Library .

The finished result is a site that now runs on word-press a full professional CMS as opposed to HTML.

As the library is an independent organisation it was a freebie for them and should help increase visitors.

Here is a tutorial on how to setup a free FTP programme called Filezilla – This makes it possible to transfer from your local machine to your server in a tree structure just like from one hardrive to another. I’ll try and explain this in as much detail and explanations as possible hopefully without sounding patronising and I will actually explain how to do things as opposed to saying that, then going dive head long into the depths of uber complex niche subjects as if you know exactly what I mean, as some writers do.

A brief introduction to tutorials and post on this blog

When looking for information on-line I believe there is a gap between what is taken for granted that the user already knows and what they actually know. There is essentially an area missing where people dont explain the basics especially with technology but across all subjects ; take cooking programmes, have you ever noticed how they pretty much only ever do very advanced food that most people don’t have time to cook or practice for; where are the cooking shows that have how to chop vegetables properly? And this isnt just me saying this I have spoken to a real chef and she agrees having seen this need. So theres a tip for anyone looking for a niche and all you bloggers teaching people thing – cover the basics aswell as the advanced.

The tutorial itself:

filezilla is open source so its absolutely free to use : http://filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=client

For this tutorial we wan the client version not server – so choose your correct OS inc 32 or 64 bit from the above link

Step 1 : Setup filezilla like any other program just click ok untill its installed

step 2 : identifying the areas to use – here in red we can see the computer tree of all your folders on your machine – and underneath the contents-of the folder in blue. Later we can just drag from the desktop or folder over to the server directory on your website. This is how scripts and code can be added and edited very easily.

Step 3 : Now we setup the Filezila with your host so you can access your website files and folders -[commonly called directories] – So cick on the icon shown here in teh top right hand corner. A pop up will show called site manager – If you have more than one website on a host they can all be accessed from one entry on the site manager – it actually gives you complete access to the entire server and all websites on your cpanel, so unless you have a site hosted on a different server you dont need to add fresh entries.l

However if you do have more than one host like me just add a new site and name it accordingly. This is actually very important because you if you edit the wrong site you can delete important files – so make sure you name them descriptively. Mine says h9 A so I know its my host nine account which I setup first .

Step 4 : For host add your website address with the ” http://www.” – for the port you can leave it empty – however if you problems use 21 this usually works or contact your host they should help.

logon type should be normal – so change that with the drop down menu

our user and password should be your cpanel user name and password – it should also be in your welcome email from your host marked clearly as FTP login.

Thats it to save it press ok -

Step 5 : Now if that login setup works correctly you should see “Directory Listing successful” if not you then you have to check your login details are correct and the port is correct.

So now you can transfer files between you desktop and your website very easily – just click and drag between the two. Public html is where you websites files are kept. Thats it for setting up an FTP – Filezilla explaining how it works and how to edit code shall have top wait for another tut .

Anyway I digress – if you sign in from the top right hand corner you get a no captcha experience of googles kw tool – which saves you maybe 20 seconds; which soon adds up, if you use it five times a day for a month thats half an hour, which is 6 hours a year or 480 hours in a lifetime.
